Flash Forward Day 2 - Wrap Up

August 22, 2008 – 12:46 am

Ok so its day two of Flash Forward and I'm still not so keen on this new format. I was talking with some people from last night's bowling adventure that turned into drinks somewhere more amusing, and it's getting mixed reviews. The conference newbs (1st time FF attendees) seem to like it but its because they don't know what they're missing. Its like Metaliq is going for the TED Talk vibe but isn't executing it as well. Not to mention, a lot of the presenters are seasoned Flash Forward speakers and now they have to take their canned presentations thats were made for the 50-60 minutes of speaking time and cram it into 20 minutes. Mostly everyone I have seen has gone over. Okay....enough bitching...here's my rundown:

  • The Adobe Keynote was great. Flash Player 10 demos. Mobile talk....nothing about iPhone. Talk about AIR, Thermo, and the Open Screen Project. and........a Flash CS4 demo!
  • Disney came up and talked about their website....Disney.com V3. To sum up, it uses a lot of Flash.
  • Danny Stallion from IDEO talked about design thinking and the value of prototyping. He also talked about multitouch interfaces and how IDEO created some Flash classes for multitouch: check it out @ labs.ideo.com
  • I finally caught the workshop sessions and yes I'm a little disappointed. Considering I have seen this stuff before. Chuck Freedman demoed the Ribbit Flash CS3 components....which are super cool and I totally intending on playing with. And Paul Ortchanian showed mostly all the stuff from his presentation that I saw in Boston last year. If you want to see the stuff he was doing ---check it out here
  • Tinic Uro did some live bug fixing to the FP10. Demoed its on FreeBSD, 64bit FreeBSD, and Linux.
  • Todd Rosenberg talked about being unemployed and making cartoons for oddtodd.com
  • I didn't bother seeing Lynda from Lynda.com...I wasn't that much into hearing about online education.
  • Erik Natzke always blows me away. Great Stuff. Oh and he posted his code for the crazy ribbons he made

There will be more video and links, I swear. I just need to have a moment to sift through it all. Looks like it will be at the airport tomorrow and when I can also write my final wrap up. w00t!
