Flash Forward Day 3 – Wrap Up

August 22, 2008 – 21:45

Ahh..Day 3. Its been a blast but I'm relieved to go home. Now I can get back home and try out something fun. Yes, I feel inspired. Now for the presentations:

  • Hoss Gifford tells everyone to RTFM (REMOVE the fucking manual) because NERTFM (Nobody ever reads the fucking manual). Don't be afraid to steer away from the normal user experience, sometimes you know better than users. Check out FringeMagents, you'll see that there is a lack of instructions but you still know what to do.
  • Ivan Todorov presented "The Make Up of Exceptional Brand Experiences". Apparently brands are like people and they should break out from the norm. This is one of the non-flash presentations that I kind of spaced on.
  • Luke Bayes talk was about coding with confidence (FINALLY SOME CODE!). He's on of the creators of AsUnit and Sprouts He talked about a different kind of development called TDD or Test Driven Development. He created simple tests for his program to pass and fail so later on it was easier to debug. Very cool.
  • David Carson showed a lot of his past design work and some of it was really funny
  • Paul Ortchanian show his experiments and show the benefit of creating your own experiments with code.
  • Karen Kimsey-House....non flash presentation. She talked about building relationships. Come on, I'm here for the flash.
  • Stacy Mulcahy gave a hilarious presentation about project managers. Why the is development deadline always pushed up when everyone blows theirs!?
  • Brendan Hall tells everyone to steal ideas but don't completely steal them. Work them out based on the idea.
  • Scott McCloud talked about comics and where they will be taken on the web. I liked how he explained that once theres a good idea out there everyone tries to make money from it. Once someone strikes it big, there a race to see who's number 2, 3, 4, etc with the same implementation. Go back and think it different.

Hey Boston! I'm ready to come home.
