Although I found the site kind of useless through the browser and the mobile site just as lame (very annoying to email a photo to a site to post on the go). So you can assume I have been dying for a decent iPhone app. My prayers have been answered, the dev team @ Brightkite has developed an iPhone app and Apple released it into the wild last night. This application has received high marks in my book and blows any other related app out of the water....COUGH...loopt...COUGH.

I found something else cool that enhances the browser experience. There was a plug-in for Firefox that can guess your geo-loacation through you wi-fi signal and BrightKite harnessed that power to add a "Guess my location" feature to their site. Here's the story strait from their blog.

So if you're interested in using Brightkite, leave a comment. First five comments get an invite so be quick!

Ahh..Day 3. Its been a blast but I'm relieved to go home. Now I can get back home and try out something fun. Yes, I feel inspired. Now for the presentations:

Hoss Gifford tells everyone to RTFM (REMOVE the fucking manual) because NERTFM (Nobody ever reads the fucking manual). Don't be afraid to steer away from the normal user experience, sometimes you know better than users. Check out FringeMagents, you'll see that there is a lack of instructions but you still know what to do.

Ivan Todorov presented "The Make Up of Exceptional Brand Experiences". Apparently brands are like people and they should break out from the norm. This is one of the non-flash presentations that I kind of spaced on.

Luke Bayes talk was about coding with confidence (FINALLY SOME CODE!). He's on of the creators of AsUnit and Sprouts He talked about a different kind of development called TDD or Test Driven Development. He created simple tests for his program to pass and fail so later on it was easier to debug. Very cool.

David Carson showed a lot of his past design work and some of it was really funny

Paul Ortchanian show his experiments and show the benefit of creating your own experiments with code.

Karen Kimsey-House....non flash presentation. She talked about building relationships. Come on, I'm here for the flash.

Stacy Mulcahy gave a hilarious presentation about project managers. Why the is development deadline always pushed up when everyone blows theirs!?

Brendan Hall tells everyone to steal ideas but don't completely steal them. Work them out based on the idea.

Scott McCloud talked about comics and where they will be taken on the web. I liked how he explained that once theres a good idea out there everyone tries to make money from it. Once someone strikes it big, there a race to see who's number 2, 3, 4, etc with the same implementation. Go back and think it different.

Hey Boston! I'm ready to come home.

Ok so its day two of Flash Forward and I'm still not so keen on this new format. I was talking with some people from last night's bowling adventure that turned into drinks somewhere more amusing, and it's getting mixed reviews. The conference newbs (1st time FF attendees) seem to like it but its because they don't know what they're missing. Its like Metaliq is going for the TED Talk vibe but isn't executing it as well. Not to mention, a lot of the presenters are seasoned Flash Forward speakers and now they have to take their canned presentations thats were made for the 50-60 minutes of speaking time and cram it into 20 minutes. Mostly everyone I have seen has gone over. Okay....enough bitching...here's my rundown:

The Adobe Keynote was great. Flash Player 10 demos. Mobile talk....nothing about iPhone. Talk about AIR, Thermo, and the Open Screen Project. and........a Flash CS4 demo!

Disney came up and talked about their website....Disney.com V3. To sum up, it uses a lot of Flash.

Danny Stallion from IDEO talked about design thinking and the value of prototyping. He also talked about multitouch interfaces and how IDEO created some Flash classes for multitouch: check it out @ labs.ideo.com

I finally caught the workshop sessions and yes I'm a little disappointed. Considering I have seen this stuff before. Chuck Freedman demoed the Ribbit Flash CS3 components....which are super cool and I totally intending on playing with. And Paul Ortchanian showed mostly all the stuff from his presentation that I saw in Boston last year. If you want to see the stuff he was doing ---check it out here

Tinic Uro did some live bug fixing to the FP10. Demoed its on FreeBSD, 64bit FreeBSD, and Linux.

Todd Rosenberg talked about being unemployed and making cartoons for oddtodd.com

I didn't bother seeing Lynda from Lynda.com...I wasn't that much into hearing about online education.

Erik Natzke always blows me away. Great Stuff. Oh and he posted his code for the crazy ribbons he made

There will be more video and links, I swear. I just need to have a moment to sift through it all. Looks like it will be at the airport tomorrow and when I can also write my final wrap up. w00t!

This year theme for Flash Forward is Passion. Passion for Flash or Flashion, as I would say, and Passion for creation and ideas. Here's my quick sum up.

Keynote speaker, Miha Pogacnik, talks a lot about passion not flash. Relates the music he plays and passion to the professional world. I can sum it up quick: The song he plays in this video is interpreted in this picture which is the evolution of a passion/idea in your life. I dig it.

Keith Peters shows a time line of Flash. He talks about trends and experimenting. He also bought up the new features in Flash Player 10 (more robust tweening, inverse kinematics, advancement in the drawing API, 3D, better text engine, Pixel Bender which uses the graphics card, better sound API).

Grant Skinner talked about why he still loves Flash. Its consistant, rapid adoption, creative, coding is art, sexy, its in high demand, the flash community, and way more. He also talked about ScaleForm, which is a video game console flash player. Sites to check out: flashscene.org and osflash.org

Missed the "In-Depth" sessions because the room was full...Lametown. I wanted to see the Away-3D session but after talking to a few people I heard I didn't miss anything that was really in depth. Here's the site if you want to check stuff out: away3d.com

Chuck Freedman talks about Ribbit and the Ribbit developer platform. VoIP in flash. Check it out

Phillip Kurman makes satire videos about technology. Tells everyone to make videos when they're mad. Apparently Adobe contracted him to make more satirical video about anything but Adobe technologies....neat.

There was a magician. The relation to flash/flex/actionscript is unknown to me. It was a cool show, I guess.

Robert Hodgin shows off his awesome sound visuals inspired by an LSD trip. Tells us to pursue the things you love. Also demos some live sound visualizations.

Craig Swann also talks about his passion for doing the things you love. Thing thing that I got the most out of it was: If you're searching for money, you'll never find it. But if you do the things you love, the money will find you. Unless searching for money is something you love....like pirates. Also he was not a large fan of AS3 when it first came out

Jared Ficklin showed a lot of real life sound visualizations and showed the translation in flash a well.

It was a passion filled day but all in all a good start. I am still missing the old Flash Forward format.

::If my Arnold pals are reading this, feel free to comment and ask questions about a session if you want more details.::

I love Flash Forward. It hasn't even began yet and I'm excited for it to start. In my humble beginnings as a flash connoisseur I decided it was best to attend FF05 in New York, its where I first really sunk my teeth into Flash community and I have loved it ever since. And now look, I'm in San Francisco for my 3rd Flash Forward conference and its going to be a blastaterious (Yes I made that up).

Its got a different structure than the previous conferences. Its laid out into 20 min sessions for all presenters and stream lined. It guarantees that you see everything unlike before when sessions were about 45-50 minutes and overlapped each other. I hope it works well.

Here's some of the sessions I'm looking forward to:

Rob Bateman - Finding Away3d

Chuck Freedman - Bringing Voice Messaging to Flash

Craig Swann - >>RE:Discovery

Erik Natzke - Beyond the Knowledge: The Art of Play

Danny Stillion, IDEO - Build to Think: Design Thinking and The Value of Prototyping

Hoss Gifford - Multiuser Creativity

Branden Hall - Brilliant Ideas that I've Blatantly Stolen

Stacey Mulcahy - Project Management from the Developer's Perspective

These sessions sound awesome I'll be sure to be write about them in my daily wraps-ups.

I'm flying out to San Francisco in 2 days for the lovely Flash Forward conference. I'm preparing myself for large flow of blog posts since I'm the only one from my company going. Blogging about the entire experience is the best way to keep my co-workers informed about the new things and trends being talked about instead of waiting until next money for me to talk about it. Its better to write about it when its fresh in the mind. I just haven't decided on the daily wrap-up or quick posts after every presentation....I'm leaning towards the wrap-ups.

Keep on the look out here and on my twitter. My twitter feed should be pretty interesting with the after parties...

I also met a bunch of other cool people whom I have collected business cards from and the fellas from PermissionTV (my old job) were there serving up slices of information on the lovely PTV platform. So if you're like me, you're inbox is filled to the brim with social network emails and requests. Its quite mind boggling.

I thought I could get along by shutting off alerts for most of my networks but, I hate logging in to see if theres anything new being talked about or anyone new trying to connect to me. So I've decided to create several email accounts for the major networks I belong to and a bulk one for the minor ones. It keep my personal email free and clear of some social junk and it makes me feel a little more organized in my very very disorganized life.
